We are delighted to see former Blameless manager Garry King’s endeavours to help those struggling with addiction in his local community of Wishaw.
Garry, who himself fought and overcame addiction issues, is looking to use his experiences to help those who are in similar positions.
He said: “I decided to come back to my own town to work and give people some sort of fast-track signposting opportunities to help not only themselves but their families as well.”
Mr King is involved in running a local community group in the area and he is hoping his involvement will help as many people as possible.
He said: “We’ve had a community group; Go Together, going through lockdown, based at St Andrew’s Church in Wishaw. On a daily basis I am talking with at least half a dozen addicts in recovery, it’s sort of in the trenches’ work.
“We are trying to help people that are low in self-esteem and give them the tools to help them fend for themselves and be open and honest.”
Garry’s son, who is a Blameless volunteer, is looking to use his experience as a child who has witnessed addiction.
He said: “Blameless is for children who have been affected by parents who have problems with addiction. I’m the child of someone who had terrible problems with addiction.
“I have first-hand experience which I look to use to help the children who are in similar situations. I think both of us having very contrasting experiences but our experiences can be used together to help those who find themselves in similar situations.”
